Simple Problem, no answer - Car stereo keeps cutting out

Hi,

I have a Sony head unit (CDX-MP70) RMS 23x4 Peak 52x4. I have it hooked up
to 4 Infinity Kappa 62.5i 6.5 speakers. When I turn up the volume maybe a
little less than half way or more on the head unit the unit cuts out/shuts
off, then in about 5 seconds it pops back on and continues playing, but will
cut out again if I don't lower the volume. From what I understand the head
unit should handle the speakers no problem. Can anyone shed some light on
what might be the problem? The head unit (in the back) does get warm-hot
but not real hot to the touch. No water damage or other phsyical damage has
been done.

Thanks for any info.

What impedence are the speakers? What impedence does the headunit support?

Head Unit: Sony, CDX-MP70, Speaker impedance 4-8 ohms, Max power output 52W
x 4 (at 4 ohms)
Speakers: Infinity Kappa 62.5i, Impedance 4, RMS Power Range (Watts) 2-75,
Peak Power Handling (Watts) 225

Do you have the ground for each speaker tied together?

what do you mean by tied together? from the head unit each speaker pair has
positive and negative which is connected to the speaker positive and
negative.... not sure i understand your question completely... i have it
wired pretty much like this:

Could it be the wires, no big enough gauge? Fuse, but if it was fuse it
would blow not just cut out right?

Hrm... What I meant was + going to each speaker and the - from each speaker
joined together (or to the car frame). Doesn't like like you do though.

The only time I've had a stereo doing that was when the speakers were too
low an impedence, so the amp got too hot and shut off to protect itself.

I don't think it would be fuses, but a self resetting circuit breaker.

Assuming there are not short circuits in the wiring, it is possible
the unit is not getting enough current...meaning the power wire is not
large enough, or that the unit is drawing its power from vehicle's
fuse block through a circuit breaker (normally found only on the
headlight circuit). Try running the primary power lead directly to
the battery's (+) terminal...using 18 or 16 gage wire. Does it cut
off still?
