Hello All,
I am looking to build a simple rangefinder that is safe to point at people but will be mainly used to find the range of metallic objects at ranges of around 60 - 100m, direct line of sight, through air, where accuracy is not a major issue.
The obvious choice for me would be a laser if I wasn't worried about shining it in peoples' eyes accidentally, there are some nice cheap architectural tools available that I have seen that use this technology and could do the job (class 2 laser).
The other choice that springs to mind are ultrasonic rangefinders but I have not come across any that have the range I require (mainly Arduino modules designed for <10m). :/
I was hoping to get some suggestions on what sort of sensor (type or even a specific model) anyone can think of that I could investigate further? I am just brainstorming at the moment but I'm a bit stuck for ideas.
Thank you very much.
