Samsung TV/VCR combo (VM6405) loss of picture/ low sound

I've got a Samsung TV/VCR combo (VM6405) that started losing the
picture about a week ago. Turning the set off (with the remote) and
turning
it back on cleared the problem.

Two days ago it blanked out after less than a minute of operation and
now
when powered up there is no video, sound is very low but can be turned
up
to an audible level and the front indicator panel that shows time and
channel
is working. Audio also seems to be distorted.

When the video would blank out there would be a loud "click" like a
relay operating
and the crt would go black with a large unfocused patch of color in
the center of the crt ( about 6"-10" in diameter) that would then dim
out, not like I
would expect if either the vert. or horiz. oscillator had bit the dust.
That is, no vertical
or horizontal line of death.

It's been decades since I last opened up a television so I'd like some
advice.

It seems to me that the problem is a bad low voltage power supply.

I think that I've read that this combo is a "marriage" of two common
Samsung devices.

Is it possible that there is a television schematic with a different
model number
that is nearly the same as this beast?

TIA
