Hi

I have a project that I'm doing now. I want to build a robot (on wheel)
that
would cover a predetermind floor area. But knowing that my robot might
be a
bit off. Lets say I make my robot do 5 circles in a row, I doubt it
will
come back exactly the same spot.
I thought of putting some small frequeny (radio emitter) on the walls
so
that the robot can triangulate itself. The robot will be supporting a
laptop
for processing. any better idea, or maybe my idea would not work for
some
reason I did not think.

thanks

Why dont you use some free running encoder wheels that are in contact with
the ground? The drive wheels produce slip, so you cant use the encoder
information from these motors. If the ground drives the encoder wheels then
slip is/should be minimal.

Maybe for some reference look for the robots used at Robocup
(www.robocup.org). There is a league called 'Mid size league' where robots
use different kind of positioning systems.
