Quasar VCR Problem

I am trying to revive a Quasar VH5270 VCR. The only way I can get it to
power up is hold the "Power" button in when I plug the unit in. Once it is
on, the unit works normally on play, rewind, etc. Do I have a power supply
problem? Or something else?

I would look at the standby section of the power supply, there should be a
voltage that powers the microcontroller all the time so pushing the panel
button will turn it on.
