Portable solar charger for portable dvd player

I would like to get a solar charger to power a portable dvd player
while on a backpacking trip. Any suggestions on make model and now
much power I will need.

Thanx,

Jake

A little more information, please. Do you already have a DVD player and
are looking for a panel to power it, or are you thinking of buying a DVD
player and want to know which one you should buy to use with a panel?

The latter. I am in the market for a portable DVD player and am trying
to figure out the best combination of DVD player and solar charger.
The DVD player I am considering says that it consumes less than 20
watts.

Also important - how many minutes per day do you wish to run the player?

I would like to be able to watch a full length movie each day ideally.
At a minimum a full length movie every other day if every day
impractical. Btw, I live in Hawaii where I will be going backpacking
so sunshine is no problem.

Since you are going on a backpacking trip, size and weight will be
important points. How much extra weight are you willing to pack?

As little as possible. Practically speaking apart from the DVD player
I could carry another few pounds. Brunton has a 14 watt solar roll
that only weighs 17 ounces. If I got that one I would have to get a
DVD player that used less than 14 watts or use it only for charging
the DVD internal battery for use later.

You
might be an out-of-shape old man like me and find yourself cursing the
weight of your canteen, or you might be an Arnold Schwartzeneggerian
behemoth who could pack a kilowatt-rated home system, with inverters.

I am in pretty good shape and have recently carried upwards of 70
pounds backpacking.

If you already have a DVD player, telling us its make and model might
help someone look up its power requirements from the manufacturer online.

Below is one I am considering. But if I can find a comparable one that
consumes less power I would go for that.

Thanx for your help.

I use a portable from Walmart for my camping, is manufactured by
Initial, has a 4 inch screen,draws 9 watts during playback. It has a Li-ION
rechargable pack that is good for about 2-2.5 hours of playback, will also
play S-VCD and plain ol' MPEG-on-a-CDR (good for putting three movies on a
single CD), although it seems to have sync issues with DVD+ media. Headphone
jack, composite out (if needed), remote control. Model # DVD-9510, has served
me well for over a year. 15cmX14cmX4cm, quite light.
I've never used it for more than a single charge, though; if I was to go
on a backpacking trip, I'd be inclined to take one of those battery packs
that holds 10 NiMH AA, allows you to recharge from an external panel. Probably
I'd use a 5watt flex panel into the battery pack, AA apparently are good for
2200mAh, which equals the standby of the DVD's battery. The pack has a 12V
socket as well, and the DVD player comes with a 12V adapter, leave the Li-ION
behind. The battpack also allows you to use 8 alkalaines if you are trekking
through the civilized world ocassionally.
The battery pack I use (for other purposes) is made by ICP, they call it the
BattPack, but there are several iterations of the product offered by various
sources.
