Hi, I thought I'd drop by to share an online tool I made with you.

It basically finds the closest combinations of two parallel resistors to make any specified total value. You can choose which E series are available to select from and, as a little bonus, it will show the proportion of current through each of the two resistors.

So, if you really need a 347R resistor, and have the E24 series to hand, you can quickly discover that a 430R and 1k8 will get you to within 0.085 Ohms.

I dare say this has been done before, and very likely done better, but I made this to use at work a while ago, and found it quite handy. So, if anybody finds it useful, that's great.

Here it is anyway: http://tools.hothotfire.com/parallel_calculator

Enjoy...

Excellent, glad to see it might get some use!

If there are any suggestions for improvements/additions, I'll see what I can do...
