I would like to build a powersupply to charge a spare battery (Toshiba
PA2439U), but I can't find a description of PURPOSE of the 6 terminals
on that battery ?

Any one know how I should configure a charger to charge that battery?

How many of those terminals are actually used?

Most of these computer manufactures are very secretive about their
particular design details. Many of these terminals are usually for
individual cell charging and sensing, and or for voltage outputs at various
levels.

There is usually one contact that is for the temperature sensing. The
temperature sensing is a very important operation, in case the battery is
overheated. If the battery temperature goes over a specified amount, the
charger will turn off, and usually indicate an error condition of sorts. The
error code, if displayed is depended on the manufacture's design and spec.

IMPORTANT: Overheated batteries can be very dangerous!

Many of the new models of battery packs have an internal electronics circuit
board in them using a microcontroler. The charger device communicates to
this area to have the data about the battery level and temperature, in order
to supply the proper charge rate. With this type of design you cannot
properly charge the battery unit using a simple charger circuit.
