Hi!

I'm looking for an old Samsung ad in a 1996 issue in Electrical Design News or Electronic Design. The ad was running in both magazines and issues with high probability of having the ad are:
- Electrical Design News, Volume 42, Issues 9-12
- Electronic Design, Volume 44, Issues 15-20

If you think you have access to any of the above issues and would be able to scan the ad please leave a note and I will provide more information.

Thanks for any help.

What Samsung product would that be?

Given the nature of advertising I doubt they were the only publications the advert was in and I have access to many magazines of that era.

Thanks! It's the Samsung KS82C614A 3D-accelerator chip. The only references I have found to the chip are what I believe are ads in those two magazines.

Look here hope it may help you,
may not be the one you are looking for.
It's from CHIPS, an earlier part with similar part number.

Thanks dorke, but the Chips 82C614 bus master seems unrelated to the Samsung part.

An article in Electronic Products from 08/01/1996 describe the Samsung KS82C614A like this:
Samsung Electronics Co. (San Jose, CA) includes 3-D with Gouraud shading and texture mapping in its KS82C614A graphics controller. It has a 64-bit PCI bus interface. Samsung expects to find a market in PCs as well as set-top boxes, because of 3-D requirements in the latest games from Nintendo and Sega. The chip's 3-D capability is said to be usable for 3-D CAD as well. It supports frame buffers from 2 to 8 Mbytes using DRAM, video RAM, and Window RAM. Drivers are provided for Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows NT, as well as OS/2 Warp, Autodesk ADI, and Microsoft Direct 3-D, Direct Draw, and Direct Video APIs. The KS82C614A is $440 each in lots of 100,000 and is available now.

I found out that I can get OCRed articles from the magazines in the University library but no scanned pages...

It sounds almost like you're getting evidence of prior art.

A quick search of my state library tells me I may have electronic access to

Electronic design (0013-4872)

  • from 12/01/1984 to present in Computer Database and General OneFile
  • from 20/01/1997 to 31/12/2011 in ABI/INFORM Collection and ProQuest Central
  • from 01/01/2014 to present in ABI/INFORM Collection and ProQuest Central
Does that sound like the same one? Not sure if these have just the articles or not. I also haven't fully checked if they have the journals in question in paper/microfiche/microfilm versions in any library accessible to me.

Ok, so the ones above (at least in the date ranges you're interested in) are just the articles, and I don't see that they retain any access to the original layout :-(

Sorry.

As an aside, a local electronic magazine was a bit of a trend-setter in allowing electronic subscriptions many years ago. I subscribed for a single year, but read no more than 1 or 2 issues precisely because they did not include the advertising. I believe they currently do, but that ship has sailed for me, I now have almost every issue in print (>30 years).
