Mobile phone jammer circuit?

Does anyone know of a circuit that will block mobile phone reception? A pink
noise generator in the 900Mhz area presumably will do it. Alternatively a
sweep generator covering that frequency. A range of 25 to 30 feet will do.

Reason. A friend of mine teaches at a tech college. Despite being told to
turn them off in class, certain students are continually chatting on their
phones and sending/receiving text messages. (Discipline in class is a joke
these days) A short range jammer/blocker should solve the problem.

Any circuit information appreciated.

Hi John,

He would love to be able to do that. Unfortunately the offenders have to
attend to qualify for their dole money so they grudgingly turn up with no
intention of doing any work. A ludicrous system in which no one gains,
particularly the students who pay to be on the course. The only way to
resolve the situation seems to be for the keen students to "impress" on the
idiots that it's not in the interests of their health to waste other peoples
time.

Might it be worth reporting them to the social?

What kind of "tech" college is it that the "teacher" doesn't have the
know-how to build it himself?

He might be teaching woodworking. ;-)

The course is for boat building and construction. No marine or any other
type of electronics included.

build a telsa coil and leave it arcing in the corner... a jacobbs ladder
might work too...

those arcs put out a lot of sideband.... so it does a good job on
digital and analog phones, and it looks cool too.

I once built a furnace ignitor around an auto ignition coil for someone.
not that the though immediatly occured to me, but I nearly lost a call
when I got within about 4 feet of it while talking...

"ooo, ok, move away from the arc..."

I did a "google" search and came up with; "http://starportuk.com/21.htm"
right off.

There are devices that will interfere with cell phones, available in the
marketplace, as there is a market, i.e. movie theatres, hospitals, etc.

I wouldn't spend time building anything that may interfere with other
devices, such as pacemakers & defibrillators, (not that the students
would have them, but you never know who'll walk by.)

I don't get it. Are you saying that he cannot kick them out because they
are on the dole? They can afford a cell phone?

A couple of problems with this suggestion: 1. You're likely to wipe
out a lot more besides just the 900Mhz band. 2. This kind of
interference is only totally effective against AM signal reception.

More's the reason to kick them out, since if their getting dole money
depends on their attendance and they aren't in attendance they won't get
paid. I'm sure attendance records have to be submitted to the state for
the miscreants to get paid, and if the records reflect gaps in
attendance there will be corresponding gaps in payments, no?

Or, as you suggest, just beat the shit out of them.

Yes, but their tutors aren't the type to snitch on 'em, for fear of
repurcussions and you can't be too surprised about that. The teachers
have their profession, homes and families at stake; the wasters have
jack sh*t except their welfare, which is probably a small proportion
of what they make from drugs, prostitution etc. Put yourself in the
teachers's position.

The teacher shouldn't have to deal with it.

I suggest a video camera in the classroom and an announcement that
monitors may be in attendance in the classroom.
