I am doing a project that uses HS540 DC motor. I want to use LDR to ON/OFF the circuit and a potentiometer to control the speed of the motor powered by 9v battery. I have the following chips: IC555, UA741, IRF540N MOSFET, LDR and a potentiometer. I searched the internet to get a circuit diagram but I couldn't. Could you please send me a circuit diagram to use the motor using any of the above ICs? Of could you please let me know the forum or website that provides the circuit diagram?
I got one using the 540N MOSFET but with a small motor.
Thanks in advance

Is this kind of homework, school project or similar?
This link gives a comprehensive explanation.

Dear Harald,
Thanks for the response. It’s a school project.
I want to make shoe polisher using motor control. I thought of using a simple circuit rather a micro controller like Arduino
I went through the link that you sent. More informative. I was told that HS540 is industry motor and may drain my 9v battery in 20 mins which make my project of less value due to high maintenance cost. Could you please suggest a DC motor that can handle 100/200 grams with 100-300 RPMs?

For a 100-300 rpm speed you will need a gear-motor. Datasheets for those should state the available torque at the rated speed.
