How easily are PV's damaged?

I'm curious how easy it is to damage a PV so that it needs replacing? How
big would hail have to be to take one out?

AFAICT your most likely damage is from "rockfall". 8*) Keep them out
of sight and out of throwing range of public areas and you should be
OK.

I have a panel that was shattered during shipment, It was replaced by the
shipper.
When I say shatterd, I mean the biggest chunk of glass may be 1/4 inch
square.

Yeah, that's what tempered glass does when it breaks. Nasa had a neat
hack for removing samples of the glass without shattering the sample,
had to do with gluing a hot(?) ring onto the glass, allowing it to
build up stress when it cooled, and then breaking the glass around
it... 8*)
