Any of you guys know a good high voltage forum out there that I could ask some questions? I have some concers with a flyback transformer and need to ask something but I obviously won't ask here as I don't see a high voltage section here anywhere. I know 4hv.org but I tried registering yet I couldn't find to who should I write the e-mail. Thanks!

Why don't you try asking the question here?
I don't see a 'low voltage' section on this site either.

Should I ask in general electronics? As I only need to know if I need some extra components or something.

I think 4hv.org Is one of the best places for asking high voltage questions, specially the flyback transformer ones. If you are not able to ask your question there for some reason just try to PM the experts there. Beloive me, there are a lot of high voltage experts there.

I would ask there but as I said I can't register there. I don't know who to send the confirmation email to.

Oh I forgot to mention, Please consider the risks of high volatge, The high voltage power supplies are able to shock you even when your hands or boddy are not directly connected to the wires...

this is what they want you to do:

In order to prove that you're human, please do the following:

Send an email to forum at 4hv.org, with only your display name in the subject line. In the body, please write a few sentences explaining that you're a real human who has read the rules and wants to join the site.

No Buddy, you are not stuppid, but maybe too young, So please, please & please be careful with high volatge. Once I was shocked by a 30KV power supply I designed from a flyback, I am ok though!:)

Yeah I am a teenager, but I worked with electronic engineering for some time already. Never been shocked by my work though. I know the whole safety guidelines and stuff like that. Also, could I know how you got shocked? This might sound bad but I'm gonna work with a MOT's high voltage (I already made a high current power supply out of one MOT though). So I'm just taking some safety precautions.

Well, I was designing a capacitor lifter (it is a triangle light weight capacitor which is able to fly!), It finally attacked me when it was hanged in mid air!:eek:

MOT's high voltage!

Again, High voltage is very dangerous, I strongly recommend you to give up, Otherwise I'll call your father!:)

Did you use a voltage doubler to step up the voltage? And isn't the original flyback voltage enough for a lifter? And I was lurking the hv forum and stumbled on an electron accelerator thread and someone said not to exceed voltages of 20kV because it will produce x-rays. So I guess it won't produce x-rays outside the electron accelerator?

No, the modern flybacks have got a built-in Voltage Tripler based upon caps-diodes.
Maybe it is better you ask your question in the HV forum. High voltage generates corona and produces ozone!

You are welcome. Please do not forget about the risks of high voltage and ozone!
