You know, electronics is a really detail-oriented business, at least
on the technical end of things. I'm tempted to do a John Houseman (as
Charles W. Kingsfield Jr.) and offer them Rs. 5 apiece to call their
moms/mums.. but that wouldn't be nice.

And the Guardian (unbiased my ass) article has WHAT to do with the
MOVIE "Paper Chase", which is about a student at Harvard Law School?

I think the most corrupt country is France, hands down.

You don't think the lobbyists have gotten out of control with the
legislators (most of whom are lawyers)? How about Jack Abramoff?

He also seems to have mixed up the follow-ups, as I mentioned nothing
about datasheets in this thread. cmb5 was the one who mentioned that. ..

I don't much mind being mistaken for you, but I can see how the feeling
might not be mutual.

The thing is, the whole point of a student project is that it be done by
the student. To the extent that it's fair to future employers for you to
be helped, you should be able to get help from the university (?) staff.

not done by the student? 'talk someone else into doing the project'? Now
that just makes him/her a 'manager'

And he'll get paid more for it.

He (?)'s clearly on a lucractive career path, and should regard any lack
of understanding as being just beneath his pay grade.

1 Define your requirements (i.e., figure out what you want the
gizmo to _do_).

2 Figure out how this translates into physical actions

3 Re-cast the results of step 2 into sets of requirements
for sub-systems

4 If things aren't in fine enough detail yet to design
hardware or software, take the results of step 3 and
apply them to step 2

5 When everything is in fine enough detail to start
cutting metal, building hardware, and writing software --
proceed.
Tim,

Your asking an Indian student to do homework !!

Your asking an Indian student to be self motivated.

Whats wrong whit you !!! ;-)

If he had learned how to do that in school, he would not be asking here.

Doesn't need to understand, just ask the questions: What are you going to
do? How long will it take you? How much will it cost? But, it does help to
learn how to 'hold' people to the answers that he/she gets. Appropriately
'yelling' You only did that! You took far too long! and Get THAT cost down!

For a manager, understanding can be a hindrance. How is a manager
suppposed to ask you to reduce your estimate if he understands that that
really makes no sense.

Also, how is a manager to ask (as one did of me), for an estimate of
what the estimate will be, if he has the remotest understanding of what
an estimate is?

Sylvia.
