Dear all of you,

Recently I've got an old 2250fax (like the 2225, but with memory). The copy
and send function are OK, but it doesnot wake up for an incoming fax.
I checked the manual, found the auto-answer and
pick-up-the-phone-and-push-the-start-button mode, but both settings don't
wake 'mn up.

It came with an old (1994) Service default report, deviating only from the
new report by:

OLD: NEW
-response ring 00sec 25 sec
-PTT parameter 1:INT'L 7:USA
(Note: I live in the Netherlands, so I suppose 1:INT'L will be better)
-Access digit (blanco) A"A

And the Configuration reprot:
OLD NEW
-tel no (blank) A.A.A.A.A.A.A.( .=japanese character)
-secure code (blank) 4567
-remote list no (blank) 22
-ret'n loc.no (blank) AVAXAZA.A. 01234567890123456789

Memory check OK for 2 ROMs and 9 RAMs

The display looks a bit funny:
below date/time it says:'AdAfAhAjAlAnAp'

It's got 8 dipswitches and some jumpers (on the I/O board for phone-, line-
and RS232- connections), but I can't figure out their function(RS232
communication protocol?).

Following questions:
-why is the thing not wakening up?
-does it contain a secret menu to correct the differences between the
service defaults reports (the secure code and access digit suggestst such a
thing); how do I enter?
-What's causing the mix between Japanese and 'normal' (what's normal....)
characters.

Any help will be appreciated.

Happy new year! Dick
