It's possessed! Have you tried an exorcism?

I should have known. It did this from day 1. Now after 2 years it will blink off just as I attempt to make a measurement. With a fresh battery. This Chinese knock off is giving me a Devil of a time.:D

hmmmm .... water and electronics really don't mix, specially when the electronics are powered up !

these 2 boards are out of a $20,000 GPS receiver that leaked
each board has a replacement cost of ~ AU$5000

Dave, you must be on a first name basis with the guys at Trimble by now.
You have probably helped pay for their new wood framed, earthquake proof building in Christchurch.

uh huh well it comes as part of the job. The company I work for is a Trimble dealer and service centre
This involves me being a certified Trimble technician. The gear I work on is all for heavy industry .... mining, road construction and general surveying

cheers

This part is out of a CPU power supply. The GND terminal got hooked up to the hot wire at 120VAC! Also a night light got the same treatment and it exploded and caught fire! I wasn’t able to get a photo of that though. :(

another from my workshop
This is the board from a level sensor. The sensor wasn't being recognised in the system's diagnostics screen. Upon opening the sensor up, I was greeting with that familiar smell of burnt electronics. A small spot welded stainless steel bracket fell off inside the unit and shorted the board out
with these results
