I can't quite follow you. Where's the catch? What am I missing?

"it's not something that aged and went bad. It was made wrong, ugh!"

I can see someone being upset because their tv died twice in 7 years. I can also see some speculation on why it may have failed. It could be either, both or something else completely,like, the instructions were not followed.
For example, its mounted over the hot fireplace, or mounted in a tight entertainment center where it does not get adequate ventilation.
I would expect it to last at least 3 years before failing, but saying it was made wrong is likely baseless.

It could also be interpreted as;
They are made with cheap (inferior) capacitors, and poor circuit design.
If in fact the caps are only lasting 3 years, I'd have to agree.

Yes, they could get a batch of badly-made capacitors (electrolytics) and they would be VERY ANNOYED.
The same with car manufacturers that get a bad batch of seat-belts or air bags and it damages their whole reputation.
