Hi i have a 5 pin relay in a 12v circuit that is triggered by an earth on pin 85 from a sensor but for some unknown reason i have 5 volts showing when I put the multimeter over the power wire pin 86 and trigger wire pin 85
I would have thought there would be no voltage until triggered on pin 85
Pin 30 is an earth in and 87 is an earth out to the alarm these are bridged when triggered on pin 85 from sensor
Any idea why I have a 5 volt when not triggered

Obviously standard automotive relay SPDT.
If you have a sensor attached to 85 and you read a voltage when the relay is off, this is due to leakage through the sensor.

I still have a voltage reading with sensor disconnected
Could this be built up in the relay coil

If you are reading a voltage across 85 & 86 with only the 12v connected then obviously there is either some leakage or your very high impedance meter is picking up something?
