A place I used to work used small claims court to seize the cash
register from another business for a bad bill.

That story reminds me of a problem with a bank. about 30 years ago.
They lost a $3000 cash deposit for my business account. They finally
admitted that they had put it into someone else's account, and it would
take three days to fix. I had written a check to a supplier for that
amount and it had bounced. They were giving me all kinds of crap, till
I mentioned the name of the state bank examiner and offered to call him,
at home. All of a sudden, the money was back in my account, the fees
waived, and a VERY apologetic phone call from that bank branch manager
was made to my supplier for THEIR mistake. ;-)

Kind of reminds me of a check I had written out for $1300 at a computer
show. I was just browsing around in the history of my account to see
when I had made an online payment to the utilities company and noticed
this $1300 check had been processed twice!. what really got me thinking
is how an accounting system would allow the same check number to be
withdrawn like that.
I quickly E-mailed them using their E-Mail system about it. I was
sent a day later via my regular E-mail account a letter with all my
account info in it which they are not suppose to do, from the main
office indicating that the overdraft of $1300 was corrected and replaced
in my account with out any sorry to go with it.
I printed out a copy of both the error i found, E-mail sent to
me and made a trip to a local branch office with all material
in hand.
They thanked me very much. I received a letter via snail mail
thanking me very much and apologizing for the actions of an individual
at their main branch.
Nothing more was said about it. I can only assume the worse.
