Do you still need thermal paste when using a silicone elastomer?

They are actually better.than using Mica isolators.

It may help, but you need flat and clean surfaces and tighten the screws well.

First thing to check is whether the Mosfets themselves are isolated in case there are "metallic back".
If they are plastic ,they are obviously isolated.
For isolated devices use only thermal paste for best cooling.

Ah, good to know. I think a couple of the replacement parts had a plastic back. I'll have to double check. Thanks!

It is not necessary but will not hurt. I find it useful though to use a smear to stick the pad to my heat sink whilst assembling bits. It saves having to chase parts all over.
