Hi there,

I have a 2015 12" Macbook and its battery is totally dead. It won't hold a charge. I want to get it replaced at Apple but it's way overpriced. It costs $290.08 in Canada inc. tax. I'm not going to open it and install a 3rd party battery either.

So I was wanting to just carry around a 3S LiPo battery which I already have that has a voltage of 11.1-12.6v and has an XT60 connector on it. It's a battery used for RC Planes/Helicopters/Drones. The original MacBook charger says it's 14.5V but I've charged my MacBook with a 5v adapter before as well.

I want to just solder a USB C cable to XT60 adapter and plug that battery in to charge. My cost would be 0 because I already have all the things I need.

Does it work like that or will I break my laptop if I do that? Can I directly hook up a battery to my charging port?

Also, the USB C cable has many wires inside. Which ones are for power?

Thanks,

Ardalan G.
