    Curtis TV Dec 26 2016

I have a flat screen Curtis tv model LEDVD2488A-B. It has less then 50 hours of use and it will not turn on. My operational manual says if this happens just unplug it wait 1 hour the plug it back turn on. That did not work even now after 3 months it will not turn on. i tried to make sure that both side of the plug was safely grounded and also shorted one to another. this was dome with the tv unplugged and done safely. I’ve tried to find a schematic just to look at what the problem might be. I also tried to get Cutis to respond but got no where. I used to repair the old CRT and tube TV’s so i’m half satisfied that I can get it open and replace parts and test it again but not without a schematic.

If anyone has any information I would appreciate your letting me know.

First thing I'd do, is open it up.
    1) Check the fuses
2)Check the power switch itself (is problem with both the remote and the chassis 'on/off' switch?)
    3) Look for any physical component damage.

Thanks, but Id like to find out a little about the electronic on function. We have used this tv a very small length of time. Shortly after we go it the same thing occurred and the user manual said if it does this just unplug it wait, replug it and it should come on. (caps discharging ?)We did this and it worked. Their explanation led me to believe that this could reoccur. Thanks.

OBW where might I find a schematic? Any guess might lead me to one.

Only 50 hours. Is it still under warranty?

No we got it 14months ago. It was on a real good price, or so we thought. Now it just about a boat anchor. When I get time I'm going to open it if I have to use my Dremel. Super glue will put it back to gather if I find out why its not turning on. I'll just trace the incoming AC until it disappears. There's the bugger. No HV worry like in the old CRT Horizontal circuit. Maybe a static e caution but what have I got to loose.

it will disappear very quickly as it will get converted to multiple DC rails in the power supply circuit

Well its disembowled, No fuse"s NO burned parts. No damage that could be seen. I wonder about the CD player and the TV. Something has to redirect the input from the cable to from the CD. Ok you did start the unit if you put in a CD. It will come on and play the CD. When the CD finishes it shuts down. So input with might be looking for a CD and the TV is off. Ah the screen never lights up, nor the red light at the bottom going green, hmmmmm Tomorrow I'll insert a CD and watch the mechanism to see if it will turn the screen on.

    You're confusing us.
Do you mean you're trying to play a DVD, or are you actually running a CD to play music on that TV (that would
probably disable the video function, while playing music)?

With the description you've given us, I'm thinking either your TV has a failure, or the switching mechanism that
enables either the TV or the CD player (or anything else this set is capable of doing) is not working.
Kind of hard to diagnose without looking at it. While not impossible, I'd be looking mostly at what causes the
TV to power-up, before actually assuming the TV itself has a failure.
Can you identify any power switches, relays, or interlock disconnects that might be preventing power to the TV Section?
You said you've worked old CRT sets. Get a voltmeter and check for input power to the TV power supply section.

I've got more test equipment then I know how to use with todays TV. I was hesitant to probe around without a schematic. The wife said what can you loose? I've already purchased a new one for her so the Curtiss is in the basement on a work bench. I'm going to pit a CD in and see what happens. I think that when the TV was receiving Cable info that when you put in a CD thew screen blanked momentarily and thew CD pic was displayed. So I'll poke around some more. Ive got it all disassembled and supported I think I can power it up safely.
