The convergence was off, the opinions were to replace the STK4277-SL, which
I did. I replaced with a STK4277 (no sl version) I made the leads fit, no
problem.

Powered back on, but convergence is exactly the same- red all wrong around
the outter edges. Center is ok- but off around the outside edges and I can
not move/adjust the red convergence around the edges (I can adjust the red
in the center however)

I have looked at all the connections, they all look good to me, but I
touched several of them up anyway- just to be safe, no change however.

I live in Texas, near Dallas. Any suggestions? I'm not willing to spend
$500 to repair this tv- I'd rather save my money and buy a HD unit.

ANY advice anyone here could offer would be greatly appreciated.

The STK is just the amplifier, you need to scope the error correction waveform
inputs that come from the ramp generator section. If that doesn't make sense,
then......

........it's time to replace the TV.

I guess its over for me then. I replaced the STK4277, the 2 3w power
resistors (22ohm+10ohm piggy backed) plus all 36 caps on the board and
touched up dozens and dozens or solder points. The convergence issue has
not gone away or improved at all.

Since I'm not an experienced technician... is there any other cheap
alternatives I can try to repair the unit before either giving up or paying
the big bucks for the repair?
