Control thyristor via Arduino

I am making a project in which i need to turn off the connections of my transformer when the load current exceed 5amperes. I have installed the relay but the faculty member have urged to use thyristor instead of relay. Can someone suggest me which thyristor should i use and how it can be controlled via arduino.

A triac with zero crossing opto isolator/triac driver, AKA SSR, (solid state relay).
