Coil position on ferrite rod?

Hello, I'm building a simple AM transistor radio kit for my RSGB Intermediate. The supplied ferrite rod has the coil loosely sliding on it.
Should I glue it in the middle, or at one end, or do I have to arrange it so it can be slid along to improve reception somehow?
Many thanks, Jerry M6HTH

The position isn't too important, but it shouldn't be free to move up and down the rod. I would fix it in place with a drop of wax from a candle.

The coil position will affect the inductance which will be maximum with the coil in the centre.
Most radios adjust the coil at the low frequency end of the band for maximum sensitivity. The capacitor is adjusted at the high frequency end of the band.
