I've been trying to find some capacitors for a project i'm working on. I'm able to find the capacitors with all the specs i need except the tolerance rating that is recommended.

I'm not finding these capacitors anywhere with the 50% tolerance that is recommended.

What would be the solution?

All of these are for a power supply:

100 u* * * 50% * * 16V * * * EL ----------------- Length: 15mm* Width: 9mm
2.2 m* * * 50% * * 16V * * * EL*----------------- * Length: 32mm * Width: 17mm
2.2 m* * * 50% * * 25V * * * EL *---------------- * Length: 41mm * Width: 19mm
2.2 m* * * 50% * * 25V * * * EL*------------------* Length: 41mm * Width: 19mm
2.2 m* * * 50% * * 35V * * * EL* --------------- * Length: 41mm * Width: 22mm

Thanks!

Hi there
welcome to the forums :)

in reality most would probably be better than 50% anyway prob 20 - 30%
for electrolytics

for smoothing/bypass caps in a PSU its not really that critical. Its more important that their voltage ratings and values are suitable for their location in the circuit.

your values above...

100 u = 100uF presumably
2.2m = ? I would have expected that to be 2.2uF ?

2.2m = 2200µF? That would be reasonable for a power supply.
Another parameter to watch out for is the ESR (equivalent series ressitance) of an elko in a PSU. A lower ESR reduces the thermal stress on the elko due to the AC-part of the current flowing in and out of the elko.

Dave

The manual says 100 u...the capacitor i pulled from the power supply is 100 uf.

The 2.2 m (what it says in the manual) says 2200 uf on the capacitors i pulled.

Thank you guys for your help with this.
