I have a Caddx NX-8, with (2) 1448 keypads. All was well with it
until today, when I added 2 smoke detectors. They are the exact same
model as those which were in the system already, they were paralleled
in and no changes were made inside the panel to the fire alarm
circuit. I did disconnect the AC inside the panel, as well as the
backup battery, siren, and RJ-48 while I did the upgrade, however all
connections were remade when I was done.

I tested each of the new detectors, and they work fine. The reset
function via the panel works fine as well. The service light is on,
though, and doing a *2 from the keypad shows a fault #8 which is a
"Ground Fault"

I'm not clear about what that is indicating, and am looking for
suggestions on where to begin troubleshooting.

Thanks all.

these can be real bastards to find first power down panel and do a reset
condition may go away if not You need to determone if the negative or
positve is touching ground
first check detectors you installed make sure nothing is touching or
pinched . if every thing looks ok some
take off all loop wiring and dummy out with resistors if condition continues
you may have a panel problem have seen this with several firelite and sk
panels over the years .
If panel is clear then take wiring and with ohm meter in 400 -1000 ohm
scale
touch each wire end with one probe and other probe on panel earth ground
terminal you should have no reading on any conductor if you do that is wire
that you need to chase till you figure out were it is touching. pllan
onspending sevral hours tracking this down if it is a big system . I have
had some real pain in asses over the years .

Thanks for such a quick reply, Nick. In the meantime I found an
installation manual online. It seems that I was going about
interpreting the fault wrong. An "8" on the display after entering
service mode is a "Lack of System Time" fault, which was a result of
me pulling all power from the panel. Reprogramming the time cleared
it all up.

If it had displayed a "1", that would indicate a system fault, to
which I would have hit 1 again, and if an "8" was THEN displayed, that
would mean a ground fault.

As it was, I just needed to set the time and all is well!

Thanks again!

Thank goodness it was that simple. I like caddx panels but some times they
have there issues.
