Caddx NX-148E Problems

I have a Caddx NX-8 control panel with a NX-216 zone expander and 4
NX-148E keypads that was installed about 18 months ago by a relative
who did have his own alarm business. This relative was killed in a car
wreck shortly after installing my system so I have no one to turn to.

The problem is that last night the keypads just started beeping. The
fire light on the keypads started blinking and the siren did go off. I
entered *7 but this did not do anything. I put in my user code and it
did silence it for a couple of minutes but eventually the siren went
off again. I ended up unplugging the control panel and battery.

Service required type *2 for help did appear on the keypad. When I
checked this I had two errors:

Expansion Box Tamper
Expasion Trouble

Any ideas? I should also add that it did do the same thing about 17
months ago but it only did it once and then it stopped until now.

Sounds like you have a problem with a smoke detector

What would be the easiest way to determine this? How long will all my
programming stay in memory since the system and battery is unplugged?

Maybe it is a smoke detector problem? My smoke detectors are ESL
429CST. I found one web page that says this detector is not compatible
with Caddx control panels. Is this true? How can I bypass the smoke
detectors to see if my system will work?

Are ther smoke detectors connected to the system? If so what brand and how
many? Do any of them have a red led that stays on?

Before or after your alarm occurred?

those detectors are OK.
take the 2 wires off zone 8 and the common terminal next to it and replace
them with a 680 ohm resistor. that will remove them from the system. then
you can power up and see if the problem has gone away.

Your programming will remain indefinitely.

The ESL429CST is not listed for use with the NX8. You need to replace them
with a model compatible with that panel like an ESL 429AT, 521 or System
Sensor 2WT-B. These do not have integral sounders like the 429CST however.

Might not be a smoke detector problem. When NX panels get zapped by
lightning or get a power surge the fire light rapidly flashes rapildy. So
could be quite serious.

Try powering the panel down and back up again. Sometimes this works

I was thinking they were the ones with the integral heat. My bad.
The bypass instructions I gave should still work, though. :)
