Board to board connectors?

Hello everybody,

I'm in Silicon Valley, California, USA and I'm developing a product that
must mate to an existing assembly. I seek about 100 pieces each of
these Tyco/AMP/Aces parts within the next 30 days:

1-5316560-1
1-5353187-1

They are 0,6 mm center distance 160 pin SMT board - to - board connectors.

All three vendors I contacted want reasonable money for these parts, but
require 3500 - piece minimum purchases for each part number. I *could*
buy them but that would blow the budget for the rest of the parts I need.

'Other vendors' have quoted full retail price with doubled lead times!

I found that eBay.com digikey.com, alliedelect.com or radioshack.com
cannot sell me these.

Can you recommend a good source that can sell me prototype quantities of
these parts?

Thanks!

I hate to sound unhelpful but wouldn't it have been better to check availability
before designing them in ?

That's one at least ( googled btw ).

Can the likes of Molex / JST / Samtec not help ?

I didn't have much choice there Graham. The connector on the customer's
existing equipment mates with these part numbers; no parts from other
vendors are remotely compatible.

Yup. I contacted some of the 'other vendors' and found they wanted full
list price with double leadtimes and sometimes larger minimum
purchases than the authorized resellers.
Can the likes of Molex / JST / Samtec not help ?

None of those vendors have a part that will mate to the existing assembly.

Thanks for your thoughts.

You might want to post this in sci.electronics.components.

Some of oddball stockists read it.

So man, enjoy your Sunday.

Phone up the maker mans head office next week and speak to the woman in
sales.
She'll have all this database on the line and tell you where the shit was
last delivered. Be nice and she'll give you the cross referenced part
number.

I found three places that stock the connectors or can get them easily,
so that isn't an issue.
It's just that they won't sell me fewer than ~3600 parts when I only
want to buy 100 pieces of each.

I posted to sci.electronic.components as Graham suggested, so perhaps
someone wants to turn their stock into cash.

Thanks for your thoughts

If you can't do it... you can't do it......

http://www.tycoelectronics.com/customersupport/findaphonenumber/americas.asp

United States - Harrisburg, PA

Tel 800-522-6752
Fax + 1-717-986-7575

If I really wanted to be a bastard I'd tell you 100 off for that sort of
component is something close to a production run for some expensive shit
that some idiot managed to stick the wrong number in your stock control list
and you're just pissing about trying to fulfill a promise.

Development........ my arse.

See how many free samples Tyco will give you. Also, did you search all the
mail order places like Allies, Mouser, Avnet, etc. ?

Well, see, he's got to connect to an existing product which uses them,
and it's a funny story, see, the existing product was made by a company
that had 3400 left over from a previous project...

Hi there Tam,
See how many free samples Tyco will give you.

I have both of the free samples, but am still short about 99 pieces per
part. :)
Also, did you search all the
mail order places like Allies, Mouser, Avnet, etc. ?

Indeed I have. My friends at Mouser are one of the vendors that quoted
~3500 piece minimums, for example.

Thanks!

It's slightly worse than that. The company that designed them in won't
talk to me about selling spare connectors. For real cash even.

I've got great heaping bunches of Berg 84553-101 that I have been trying
to unload. 300 pins, 10x30 array, 50 mil centers.

For a tiny fraction of their retail price.
