I had not read the article until I saw your link but did
view the associated video last night. The video tries to
simplify some concepts so much that it ends up being wrong
in some respects: (e.g. the Philips' representative
statement that "the incandescent bulb operates by 'burning
up' a little wire filament!") If Philips lamps have oxygen
in them perhaps they should get rid of it :)

The video also discuses the price difference without
discussing the life difference.

Dumbing down technology is done all too often in the US,
leaving most consumers with incomplete, or even worse,
incorrect, information about their product choices.

I'm sure that's not what he meant, but philips certainly used to make,
and as far as I am aware a compaany in Ireland still make, they
certainly did a year or so ago, lamps with oxygen in them -
photographic flash bulbs.

The video refers to conventional incandescent lamps, not
flash lamps. The filament dies via evaporation, not
oxidation as is implied in the video.
