Does anyone know anything about this firm and their products? I've
been offered one at what I believe to be a pretty good price and would
like to purchase it, but am a bit concerned about quality. Are they
reliable, long-lived and otherwise generally well thought-of in
electronic circles?

Thanks,

p.

Just saw a pair of these go at the Taylor Comm auction yesterday for
$4500 and $5500 respectively.
For a -B and -C.

List price is around $6000.

Anritsu isn't nearly as junky as, say, Tektronix.

Yes, I think they are a pretty good mark, but I don't have any first-hand
experience.
Thanks,

Thanks. The one I've been offered is about twice that price, but is
probably a higher spec/bandwidth. Plus of course we always get screwed
on price in the UK compared to every other country in the world. I
don't mind paying the extra *if* it's still going to be around in 20
years' time and still giving reliable service.

Anritsu is really a top-notch (Japanese) outfit; one that predates
WWII. One of the finest test equipment manufacturers in the world. I
don't know about your local service and resale price aspects.

For various reasons, dedicated analysers that are capable of
processing lower frequencies are not cheaper. These devices typically
listed above 22K US (30K Cdn), new. They do not depreciate
significantly, if maintained properly.

Calibration, as with any device of this nature, can be a dominant
factor in operating costs in an ISO operation, regardless of internal
self-calibrating features.

Invest also in an input attenuator/clamp, if working with power
circuits.

So I gather, although I don't understand why they hold their price so
well. Anyway, I'm much reassured by the comments I've read here
(thanks, Speff) and will probably go ahead with the purchase.

Fortunately since I am but a humble hobbyist, I don't need to worry
about such precise standards of accuracy.

Given my tendency to absent-mindedness, I think I'll take your advice
on that one!

That part of Anritsu was previously known as Wiltron and is located in Morgan
Hill, CA. I believe it was started by ex-HP engineers. They are a fine
company. Anritsu bought Wiltron. There is both a microwave test and
telecommunications test division in Morgan Hill.

I've used an Anritsu before. There was nothing wrong with the machine, but for
some reason the Smith Chart chart readouts were all normalized to 1 Ohm, even
though the actual measuring system was 50 Ohms. I never investigated the
issue, but instead went back to using an HP NA. The machine seemed to be of
very high quality.
