I'm using lead-acid 12V batteries, 'deep cycle' type, 110Ah each for storing solar power. My two batteries are now somewhat degraded through use, disuse and abuse & I was thinking it's probably time to replace them.

This is the type I have; https://www.thecaravanstore.com/12v-110ah-lucas-leisure-battery-lx31mf/#.WAtMW8m2Es8

Just wondering, are there any worthwhile alternatives.. lithium etc? That are reasonable in terms of what benefit you get for the extra price?

I just saw in Popular Mechanics that people are using battery packs from hybrid/electric cars. They said a good in the US is $1000.
