I have this old tektronics scope. I did find a primer for scopes on
tektronic web site, but I cannot ind specs on the scope - like bandwidth.

434 has 25 Mhz analog non-storage BW.
Stored writing rate depends on a few variables.

FYI,These scopes have been out of production for a LONG time.
You can get an approximate date of manufacture by checking date codes on
various parts
The format is ww-yy;last 2 digits of month, and year.I'd check the CRT date
code,then ICs,timing caps,pots.

minor nitpick;TektroniX,not -ics

yes - I know it is an old beast, but it works flawlessly, so if I can get it
to do the job for me, why not? I suspect newer ones are a few beer and
cheesies worth...

thx.

WRT age;
The stored writing rate depends on the CRT's flood guns, and eventually, they
wear out.And such old scopes are hard to get parts for repairs.
Plastic parts outgass, get brittle and break.

The 434 PS was a wierd one, too. The HV assy was one of the weak points on
this model.

oh well - I can always run it until it drops! I use it infrequently anyways
and mostly for audio... When it goes I'll come back here for sage advice on
an affordable alternative.

Please remember I'm NOT disparaging your scope.
I serviced many of them and they certainly were not the worst scope TEK
ever made.

No offense taken - after all, I didn't make it - and it IS old. It still
seems respectable, but at least knowing it is in the 25 Mhz range at least
helps me to understand the limitations on it.

Thanks for the input. And the Tektronics site does have a great primer for
basic understanding of the control setup on most scopes (I guess).
