I have a wireless router that runs off 12V 1A but I lost the power cord. I do have a 12V 0.5A power cord that is made by the same company for a different router. This router will be plugged in 24/7. Will it work normally if I plug it in with the 0.5A cord? will it get damaged over time? are there any risks to doing this and having it plugged in for a few years? Thanks for the help.

Likely isn't going to work... If the situation was reversed you would be fine, but as is your proposed 'replacement' adapter can't supply what the device wants or needs...

Unless you look at the bottom of the router in question and see that it actually only requires 0.5A (500mA) or less input... In that case it will work...

True but personally I doubt that is the case, I suspect it requires more ponies thus the reason the manufacture bundled a 1A version...
