The CP6940 Ethernet switch has been specifically designed and optimized for multicast applications, long-term programs, and for use in harsh environments.

Particularly suited for multi-CPU high-performance servers in both the aerospace and defence sectors, as well as for deployment in communication networks, the switch is one of Kontron's—a provider of IoT and embedded computer technology—latest offerings.

The CP6940 Ethernet Switch

The new CP6940 is a 6U hot-swappable CPCI and VITA 31 switch with 26 GbE ports and six high-performance uplinks of 10 GbE. It provides a built-in switching capacity for CompactPCI and VITA 31.1 installations at a leading price-performance ratio through the implementation of the latest in switching technology.

Additional specifications include leading-edge technology based on a BCM56626 chipset, 24x Gigabit Ethernet Port, non-blocking layer 2 & 3 switching and routing, IPv4 and IPv6 compliance, and DHCP server and boot media support.

QSFP+ modules are supported for high-performance network connections via 2x40G or 8x10G ports, as well as SFP+ modules for different transfer rates—1, 2.5, 5, and 10GBase-x. It also has an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

CP6940 variants are backward compatible with previous models, CP6930 and CP6924.

Potential Applications

Purposely designed to be somewhat future-proof, the CP6930 is perfect for applications that require outstanding bandwidth and communications safety.

The more obvious applications, therefore, include sensitive industries such as defence and aerospace but also include industries where reliability and performance are important, for example, large VoIP installations, call servers, media gateways, and VoIP systems in enterprise networks with high volume and performance demands.
