The ADP2450 is optimized for low-voltage circuit breakers, such as the molded case circuit breaker (MCCB), and current transformer-powered supply applications.

As more modern low voltage power distribution systems require more intelligent functionality, the ADP2450 offers a simple solution.

Recently released by Analog Devices, the ADP2450 integrates several components:

  • A boost shunt controller with power detection;

  • A ultra-high efficacy buck regulator

  • Four low offset, low power consumption programmable gain amplifiers (PGAs);

  • A fast analog trip circuit; and

  • An actuator driver.

With all this together, the ADP2450 is designed for use in low-voltage circuit breakers such as the molded case circuit breaker (MCCB), and current transformer powered supply applications.

Product Features

The ADP2450 features 4.5V to 36V adjustable input and output voltage ranges, 500mA continuous output current, 1.35mA operating supply current, 3.3V and 5V fixed output options, and 1.2MHz fixed switching frequency. Adjustable output voltage can be tuned down to 0.6V.

The ultra-low power consumption ADP2450 also features four programmable gain amplifiers, programmable gain and output DC common voltage, low offset operation amplifier for leakage and grounding fault detection, and an analog trip circuit with programmable threshold.

Operating between -40°C to +125°C, the ADP2450 is available in 32-lead LFCSP or 48-lead LQFP packages.

The ADP2450 Power Management Integrated Circuit

The ADP2450 offers accurate measurement over a large current input range based on CT turn ratio.

A low offset operation amplifier is combined in the device for leak detection, and the device's buck regulator, able to deliver output currents of up to 500mA, works over an extensive range of input voltage, with the output voltage adjustable down to 0.6V.

The buck regulator works in pulse-width modulation mode (PWMM) with a fixed 1.2MHz switching frequency. This provides the system with a low output ripple voltage.

The regulator's output voltage is monitored by the supervisory circuit which makes the entire system more reliable. When the output voltage is below the set monitoring threshold, the reset signal can be used to reset the device.

Furthermore, boost output voltage that can be up to 36V and integrates a power detection circuit to facilitate the prevention of circuits from power problems such as shortages. To cater for various potential applications, the power detection threshold is fully programmable with resistors.

EVAL-ADP2450

The ADP2450's performance can be evaluated by the ADP2450ACPZ-3-EVBZ evaluation board. This provides a complete solution that enables seamless evaluation of performance with a PCB layout. The board is complete with CT or AC current source as its input.

Product Applications

The ADP2450 is designed specifically for low voltage circuit breakers and CT-powered supply applications.
