The USB1086 3.0 Type A was developed by GCT with heavy-duty applications in mind. It is designed with remarkable durability and a benchmarking capability of 20,000+ mating cycles, making it ideal for heavy-duty equipment and hardware.
It was built with a 9-contact pin with a 14.90 mm profile and a shell stake length of 4.00 mm. The USB1086 comes with a stainless steel construction as opposed to its nickel-plated brass shell predecessors.
Type A helps the USB connector maintain the 8Nm retention force and makes it extremely durable and resilient to wear and tear, adding to the USB1086’s overall longevity and robustness.
Moreover, due to its retention force, the USB connector promises over 20,000+ mating cycles, “Over 13 times more mating cycles than industry-standard USB Type A product,” says Vaibhav Joshi, GCT India sales manager.

“When designing equipment with USB Type A connections, engineers often take for granted how many times they are mated and unmated in their lifetime,” said GCT. “For some, this is not a concern as most are tested to 5,000 mating cycles, more than enough for its intended application. For others, this could mean the difference of a product failing far earlier than expected.”
The company has seen a drastic increase in demand for USB Type A connector sockets with excessive mating cycles. This demand is primarily generated from equipment and hardware in public environments and transportation applications for charging purposes.
Increased usage is likely due to exposure to high levels of footfall. These demands are satisfied by the high mating capability of the USB1086, which maintains its retention force of =>8N after cycling due to its stainless steel build.
In contrast, its predecessor, USB Type A connectors, typically had a nickel-plated brass shell, which resulted in tabs losing retention due to its low elasticity properties and thus less mating cycles.
As previously mentioned, the USB1086 is designed and built to last. “This is another market first for GCT as we continue to push the performance capabilities of our connector range,” said Vaibhav Joshi, GCT Sales Manager India. “The USB1086 is a prime example, which has over four times more mating cycles than industry-standard USB Type A 3.0 products.”
Mainly the industries that will be reaping the benefit of the robustness of this USB 3.0 Type A connector would be the ones responsible for the manufacturing of public environment charging equipment such as transportation charging outlets or any devices that exposed to high-traffic applications.
