Dassault Systèmes Introduces New Features to 3D Design and Engineering Software SOLIDWORKS

Dassault Systèmes has introduced SOLIDWORKS 2020. This is the company’s latest release of its portfolio of 3D design and engineering applications with all-new enhancements, capabilities, and workflows.

Software leader Dassault has recently introduced the latest version of its 3D design and engineering portfolio, SOLIDWORKS 2020. This iteration of SOLIDWORKS includes hundreds of new enhancements, capabilities, and workflows requested by its userbase of over 6 million people worldwide. 

Through a seamless connection to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, SOLIDWORKS 2020 addresses emerging trends and modern business needs by providing a growing set of cloud-based solutions for seamless design-to-manufacturing. 

Dassault has also said that the all-new SOLIDWORKS 2020 addresses the levels of collaboration and agility needed for the global marketplace.

What’s New in SOLIDWORKS 2020?

SOLIDWORKS 2020 features hundreds of new enhancements so, unfortunately, we can’t cover them all. Some of the more prominent features and enhancements include graphics acceleration for drawings, flexible part capability, and improvements to SOLIDWORKS PDM, PCB connector, and electrical connector. 

The new detailing mode and graphics accelerator for drawings allows users to open their drawings in a matter of seconds while still being able to add and edit annotations within it. This detailing mode is particularly useful if minor changes to large drawings are required or if there are drawings with many resource-intensive views and configurations.

The new flexible part capability, ‘Make part flexible’, enables designers to display a single part in several different assembly conditions. This is ideal for parts that have different states and/or are flexible, such as springs, hinges, and o-rings. 

Improvements to SOLIDWORKS PDM, the SOLIDWORKS electrical connector, and a new SOLIDWORKS PCB connector make it possible for complete and comprehensive electronics design and management from within the SOLIDWORKS software. 

Finally, the ability to directly edit mesh geometry (e.g. STL files) has been improved upon in SOLIDWORKS 2020. Using the same workflow as a native SOLIDWORKS file, filleting edges and changing a fillet to a chamfer and back again is now possible.

Although these three improvements are useful as standalone features, they all contribute to a quicker time-to-market and shorter development timeline for electronic products. These are just three examples of hundreds of new additions, changes, improvements, and updates that have been made in response to current industry needs and demands—tools that help products move from the idea phase to deployment in a shorter amount of time. 

Furthermore, through 3DEXPERIENCE integration, SOLIDWORKS is providing engineers with the tools they need to find new ways of innovating, collaborating, and producing.
