Hi, my Zenith SR2568S TV (purchased 1995) has an intermittant proble
where the picture collapses to about 5 inches to the middle of th
screen from left to right. If I bump the TV it will sometimes go t
the correct picture size suggesting a loose connection

I have heard this is due to a cap near IC1200 on the back left of th
board (facing rear of TV).

Can someone tell me how to fix this? I want to do it myself. Thanks!

If you need someone to tell you how to fix it, I would suggest getting
it repaired. There is enough current inside a t.v. to set your dick on
fire if you touch the wrong thing. I'm willing to bet you don't even
know what thing I am talking about. Since it's about 10 years old, I
would hit the back of the set with a sledgehammer and invest the money
for a repair toward a new hdtv set.

Start by checking the solder connections to the vertical output ic,
then check the ESR on the capacitors in the vertical circuit or replace
what is called the pump up capacitor to the vertical output ic.

If you do not understand exactly what this means, then time to take the
tv into a qualified technician for repair. Given the nature of the
failure the repair cost should not be excessive at a reputable shop.

It's a cracked solder joint. Open the set, turn it on, and poke around
with a plastic or wooden dowel until you find the "ticklish spot" and
then resolder that component.

Replace the capacitors in the vertical circuit, and resolder the IC and
nearby components. If you don't know how to solder or how to find the
vertical output IC then bring it to a repair shop.

Good advice so far. There are 2 possibilitys, either bad connections on
the vert output IC or bad connections on resistors close to it due to
glue on the board. Main thing is if the picture is good when you do
have a picture because picture tube failures are the norm on this set.

What would you do with a Zenith with a failed picture tube?
