I have a Zenith, System 3 - 27inch TV from 1992. Recently, there are yellow
lines across the picture. I know its the TV because DVD's look the same as
our cable channels.

I'm trying to decide if its worth fixing. Does anyone know the value of
such a tv?

Thanks.

Does it have (10) Buttons on the Front of the TV, Grouped in pairs of (5) ?
If so, thats a pretty popular Chassis and usually repairable. Cannot Really
know what the Picture looks like, but you could be seeing what is known as
'retrace lines' - ? They Start from the upper Left of the Picture and angle
slightly down to the right running accross the picture. Sometimes all need
be dont is the Flyback Pot Adjusted, else the Flyback may be bad. Also,
sometimes the CRT goes bad in these Zeniths, then its not worth fixing.

Hello:

Thanks for writing.

Yes, it has 10 buttons grouped in pairs of 5. And, yes what you describe as
"retrace lines" is what it happening. So, it sounds like its worth fixing?
What is a flyback Pot?

Thanks for writing.

The Flyback Pots are Focus and Screen Controls you turn to adjust the Focus
and the G2 Level of the Picture.
They use to always be visible on the Back Cover with 2 Small holes, and you
place a small Screwdriver in there and adjust them, but your Zenith I
believe the Rear Cover has to be pulled to access these, and ideally it
ought to be done by a qualified Servicer.

The Focus on yours Is probably ok, so turning the G2/Screen control CCW a
little may get rid of the retrace lines. If not then it could mean the
Flyback itself is bad, or again the CRT. Sometimes also a component other
than the Flyback can cause it, so probably you need to find a Servicer in
your area who knows Zenith Brand Well

Not Sure where you are, but you can Try this Form online here and See what
happens:

I think it goes to the National Electronics Service Dealers Association in
N. America if your Zip code is 'other' and they try to recommend a
qualified Servicer based on what you write.
