Saw it through totality here near JHB from about 20H00 until around 00H30 ish.
Through 10x50 binocs (no tripod), got a clear view (took still photos on 60x handycam zoom but shake spoiled most to blurred streaks). Clear skies, but cold weather kept most indoors. Brrr!

V cropped & enlarged a bit then used Photo Express to 'Auto-Enhance' as moon in photo was darker & browner than true 'blood-red' seen thru 'nocs.
Think R/H was mars but came out bluish IPO bright orangey-red seen.
Could be a star..

that blue dot to the left is a star, Mars was further to the left, out of the field of view in your cropped image

when I haven't had a tripod handy, I have held the camera against the side of a building,
up against a tree etc … helps lots
