Why are WebCams so poor?

  1. I missed out on an early, manual wire bonding machine at Cincinnati
Electronics back in the '70s. They had used it to build hybrids with
hand soldered metal caps. Rather than let an employee get it or resell
it, it was sent to the scrap yard and crushed. It still had a stereo
    scope on it, too.

  2. What do you expect? They are smuggled into the US by illegal aliens!

  4. As soon as I can have my oral surgery. I am so sick right now with
multiple low level infections that I can't even hold the camera. I've
been waiting nine days for an "Emergency" prescription to be filled and
delivered by the VA. Supposedly, it was mailed on Monday from their
pharmacy which is 90 miles away. To add insult to injury, they shipped
a refill that I already had a 50 day supply, and didn't ask for.

I did take a close shot with one at a Best Buy store, and it looked
good on the LCD when previewed. Tomorrow is our Quarterly Memorial for
the WWII and other Veterans who have died in the last 90 days, as well
as the new 3/5 scale model of the Moving Wall of troops lost in
Vietnam. Thanks to someone's screw up, I won't be getting any
pictures. Its beginning to look like I need blackmail photos of
politicians of different parties in bed with each other to get anything
    done.

  6. Just out of interest I have just posted into abse
    a picture taken with a Sony Cybershot WS35. It's
a 10mm square, cross hatched at 1mm spacings.

The full resolution jpeg is nearly 4 megabytes.

You should reference the post title.

I saw no post from you there.

  9. It's a superb picture, even the tiny little circles
where the lines cross show up, but it doesn't look
    like you'll ever see it.

I've now tried three times, my ISP swallows the
the whole of it every time, then errors 'too large'.

    GRRRR!

One last try next, splitting it into 250KB chunks.

Nope. You have to do it by lines. You should limit your lines per
    split point to 10,000.

I've observed that problem - what newsclient do you use to post
    broken-up stuff?

    Thanks,
    Rich

pan works ok on such files - puts them together fairly transparently

  15. Turnpike, <http://www.turnpike.com>. The company
is owned by my ISP, (Demon Internet), and offers
Turnpike as a free download to its customers.

I found an obscure option in there that allows the
maximum size of any newsgroup posting to be specified,
above which it is automatically posted in chunks.
I chose in the end just under 1MB maximum chunk size.

AFAICS the final multiple posting into abse resulted
in six? chunks. I can't be certain because from here
all received chunks were automatically put back together
again and shown as the original big single attachment.

Oh, yeah - I can read them just fine.

But what do I do if I have a 4MB mpg that I want to post, and neither
of my newsclients will do it because the file's too big?

IOW, I already know how to reconstitute what someone else has posted,
but how do I _MAKE_ a multipart post?

    Heck, pan doesn't even have an "attach file" button that I can find;
knode tries to upload the file, and the next morning it says, "Couldn't
upload - file is too big."

    Thanks,
    Rich

(I have a certain porno clip that I'd like to ask if anyone has
seen a part II of. Needless to say, it won't be in a.b.s.e . :) )

  17. The antibiotics are working well enough for me to see fine detail, so
here is the test photo at 4" in macro mode.

    See for: Fuji Finepix S5200
    test shot.

  18. Posted at 04:xx GMT.

No sign of it at my ISP, 9 hours later. :(

  19. Binary newsgroups are almost useless anymore. I uploaded it to one
of my websites for you. Its 1.25 MB
