I saw in a mag, a while back, an overgrown RJ-45 connector that had an
entire uP with comm stack inside. I'm considering making a little OEM
timing board, and ethernet would be a cool option if it didn't take up
much footprint.

Does anybody know who makes these things? Any experiences? If I google
"ethernet adapter" or whatever, I get megahits. We're currently using
a nice little board from Newport to get ethernet into instruments, but
it's too big for what I'd like to do.

Thanks,

John

These came out about 6 months ago from Digi and Lantronix. They run $50
each and have a serial and a few GPIO pins. There have been a couple
threads in comp.arch.embedded on them.

Here are links, along with some other small boards. Others are nowhere
near as small, but can be a few dollars cheaper.

Lantronix makes it. Can't remember the model number, but I'm sure you can
search on the name.
