Where can I get these things

Hello guys,

I want to try and make myself a really good iphone charging cable that will not break every week that looks really cool. I had a few questions because I am new to electronics and have no knowledge about them at all.

What wires would I need to put in it?
Where is the best place to buy the wires?
Where can I buy the USB and Lightning ends to it without having to buy the whole wire?

I would think, If they keep breaking, the biggest you can fit in the connector.
You can buy wire any electronics shop, electrical wholesaler and some places like Maplin, Mouser, Digikey..
USB wont be a problem at all, Ebay or some electronic shops. Lightning ends might ONLY be from Ebay and China.
But read the article and others because the lightning connector has some kind of circuitry inside it.

It would have to be very flexible and stranded. And obviously multicore.

- A suitable wire to use for the charger
- The USB end for it
- The lightning end

Try looking up 8 core alarm cable or something similar.

do i need an 8 core cable. I took apart one of my old broken chargers and it looks like there are only 4 wires in there: a white one, green one, brown one, and then a really thin silver metal looking one.

I am trying to search amazon, google, and ebay for the usb and lightning end and all I can find is actual chargers

You only need 8 core for using the cable as data and charge.
The link I gave you in the first post has the pin outs.

No, that is solid core. It will break after a few bends. (it will work) but not for a moveable cable.
You need flexible stranded wire.
ALso you need the connectors first and then go to an electronics shop to find the cable that fits in the connector.

I am completely stumped trying to find the lightning part. I have been looking for the past hour. Can you see if you can find anything
