What should I do with used ADT equipment?

Well, my three years were up, so I just replaced ADT with another
service. What should I do with the old equipment? There doesn't seem
to be much value on Ebay. The signs actually have the most value. LOL.
I have:

(2) ADT Signs
Housing Panel
Backup Battery
Control Board
Motion Detector
Keypad
Siren

We re-used the door contacts. Any ideas besides the dumpster?

Thanks everyone. I looked over my contract and you were right. I don't
actually own the system. I just called ADT and they told me to sit
tight and wait for a phone call or letter asking for the system back.
There was no indication in their system that they were actually going
to ask for it, but I think I'll keep it in a box for a year or so just
in case. It's three years old. I can't imagine they'd want it back. I
imagine the "ownership" clause is more for early terminations.

As for the motion and siren replacement, the original plan was to keep
the ADT motion sensor, but the CPI Security installer decided to
replace it anyway, free of charge. The siren on our new system doubles
as a two-way communicator, so we didn't need the ADT siren. We kept
the door contacts.

Thanks!

Sir, I do a significant number of ADT takeovers each month. In many cases,
the client owns the system, so it goes straight to the garbage can. However,
many are leased, so I box them up for ADT to pick up. To date, none have
been picked up. It's simply not worth their while.

The threat of wanting their equipment back is simply another ploy in an
attempt to keep you with them. In reality, any alarm much over three years
old has been paid for in their inflated prices, and has little or no
residual value to anyone..

ADT Corp. (not Authorized Dealers) have come to the customers location here,
although I have only seen it on commercial accounts. The customer did not
have the equipment (thrown out during remodel) and they sent him a bill for
the equipment. I warned him there was a chance that this may happen and at
the time he said "Screw them". The bill for the equipment was out of sight.
I am not sure how the customer handled it, but he wasn't a happy camper. He
already had a distaste for them to begin with. He did fulfill the contact
terms but neglected to notice the part about ownership. Boils down to
educating the customer on a take over about the agreements they are leaving.
It seems no one reads an agreement until something happens. Sounds ass
backwards but thats reality.

Back the call up with a certified letter, return receipt requested. Cheaper
than a bill you **could** receive, or in a worse case, a lien on your
property if in ADT's mind the equipment was worth enough, even in principle.
It only cost $8 dollars to register a lien here. Then it is up to you to
prove you don't owe them the money.
