    Hi folks,
I took apart an old iPhone recharger which had a swollen battery pack.
I am now, not sure what OEM product I can replace it with, or if I can even expand the capacity with a much larger battery. I don't care about aesthetics. I just want to have it working, and supply sufficient voltage to charge the iPhone and iPad, at a reasonable current.
Please see the photos I took. I had to cut off the battery terminals, which were flat.

You must stick with the same voltage, but a higher milliamp/hr rating(mAH) will do nothing but increase battery life. For example, a 2000MAH battery will last much longer than a 500MAH battery. However, the battery NEEDS to be the correct voltage.
