What is this?

    I think it is a diode, but what size and direction

    What's the 'designation' printed on the board beside it? Looks like 'D...' and for the image title presumably D2 in which case it's likely to be a diode.

    One edge looks to be chamfered which is probably the cathode. Quick test with a meter would reveal all.

    I may be way off base, but that company logo is Littelfuse.
    I don't think Littelfuse makes diodes.

    yeah, but the board designation is D2 .... which would indicate a diode as @kellys_eye alluded to :)

    Here are 1518 different littelfise diodes.

    Note that they are TVS diodes, a circuit protection device that is certainly related to their core business.

    They don't just do fuses.

    LF also makes polyswitch or polyfuse devices, a thermal-acting self-resetting fuse-ish. Can you tell from the board tracks if it is in series or in parallel with stuff?
