Hi everyone
I have westinghouse 19w6 tv
recently I've noticed that when i set timer and it starts to count
down last 60 seconds before it turns off, I see number of seconds left
and some chinese characters next to it (what's very annoying; it
drives me nuts)
I called westinghouse and they had a good laugh at my expense and gave
me the number to repair center
Since it out of warranty they won't let me download firmware updates,
if any
Does anyone know where i can find ?
thanks

Wow!

Sure not like the good 'ole days when companies/corps would bend over
backwards to keep client loyalty.

Thanks for the wake up call. I'll make sure I skip consideration of any
westinghouse products ...

Westinghouse has been gone for years, it exists only as a name slapped on
Chinese junk. Brand names are nearly worthless anymore.

Yes, of course you are correct ... cheap junk, plastic fronts and neon
signs, loud/blaring commercials ... todays world kinda reminds me of a
cheap bordello in NV.

Many of these low end electronics manufactures will not supply parts
or service info to non contracted service reps.

Personaly, I would not go to all that trouble for a low end TV set.

There are a number of old name brand appliances and electronic devices
where the names were bought up by production companies in the Orient.
Westinghouse was one of them. The US Westinghouse has nothing to do
with the consumer products. Under agreement, they will direct a
consumer to the consumer manufacture.

Personaly, If the TV is working okay, I would see if I could sell it
to someone who does not care about the extra fonts, and get a good
quality name brand TV.

Just for curosity, is there a language setting in that TV? If there
is, try chaning the language, save the setting, and then go back to
the English one. Maybe this might help.

"James Sweet .............................

As "James Sweet" said, "Westinghouse" buys "Chinese junk" from China,
then American people buy it from "Westinghouse" and use it. So I want
to ask dear you, if Chinese oem goods are junk, why "Westinghouse"
buys the junk, why American people use the junk??

Assumed that Chinese goods are junk, and you--"American People" and
"Westinghouse" are still buying and using the junk, so who are you?
Buyer of junk or User of junk, or ** ??

Grow up, American!!

Sounds good, until you look at the stickers on chit. Even the glass in
my "made in America" old car (1998) has a sticker stating it was made in
china. The new buick does not have this sticker--you think they stopped
making it in china, or do you think they just stopped telling us?

I think the latter ...

I want to know where even my dog/cat food comes from, I don't want to
eat any irradiated poison foods, I don't want to eat foods from foreign
countries, I don't want to eat foods sprayed with deadly nerve gas (and
the is EXACTLY what some insecticides are), I don't want to eat cloned
animals--you think I have a FAT chance of even knowing what the cr*p I
eat is?

To some extend, I agree with JS.
Pass and reflect, could we view this issue as: "is the Westinghouse(or
other famous comopanies) responsible for letting the consumers know
where are the goods original from??" So that the consumers can have
the judgement of selecting the goods made in China or the goods made
in USA.
Now we are living in world of worldwide ecnomics, 2 important factors
of which kind of goods consumers will buy are: "brand" and
"orignial", so it would better if the distributors in the country can
let consumers konw these information.

The point is not *where* the goods are produced, but rather that many
classic American brands which built up reputations by building quality goods
are no longer the companies they once were, but rather names that have been
purchased by other companies and stamped on generally low end goods. They
could be made in China, they could be made in Korea, they could be made in
America, but it doesn't change the situation of a no-name company producing
cheap junk and slapping recognized names on the goods to give the impression
of quality.

Not everything that comes from China is junk, and the quality does seem to
be improving, perhaps it will be the next Japan, but there is a *LOT* of
poor quality junk which had flooded in from China and it will take a while
for that repuation to change. I used to avoid buying it but I gave up, you
simply can't find anything made here anymore.

"you simply can't find anything made here anymore. ", it is due to
"economic globlization" which is initiated and promoted by developed
countries, then more and more developing countries are open gates for
the developed ones. "economic globlization" takes greater global
connectedness of livelihoods, and of the production of goods and
services, just take this as one case: Chinese people buy USA cars or
high technology, and USA people buy Chinese OEM TVs.
At first developed countries enjoy the advantages of world being of
"economic globlization", but finnally negative effects are coming out:
more and more companies are moving into developing countries, more and
more USA guys are unemployed, ......

But it is still obvious that:USA still is the number one in the world,
USA are processing most advanced technologies, taking control of most
upriver industirals, USA has the best educations and creative which
result in that more and more elites from other countries come to USA
to have eduction and attemp to immigrate into USA. Let me tell you the
truth, Chinse people perfer the cars of USA Brands than cars of
Chinese Brands.

I have to admit that there are many quality problems of Chinese goods,
that is right, Chinese goods have gained no or a little reputation in
USA, it still need many years and efforts for Chinese Brands to catch
up USA Brands which have already gained high reputation in world for
many years. But they are improving they are making movements in the
competitive world, there will be one day that USA people are pleasure
to buy and use the goods made in China.

Also about the lables or stamps, if the goods are from China, there
must will be with clear print or marks like "made in China" or
"manufactured in China" in visible positions, such as on blister,on box
or on logo.
