Weird qustion about finding location of power failure

Does anyone think it is possible to find the problem location of a
power failure,
on a power line ? One has to find only the distance, probably telling
whether the
failure occured downstream or not from the place of monitoring.

Assume that you can do whatever you want ( technically ) from the
location where you are but cannot travel to locate the location of
failure.

Definitely possible, depending on the type of fault. Read up on the Murray
bridge, Varley bridge, Time Domaun Reflectometry, etc.

No necessarily practical, but possible in many cases.
