    Hi guys,

I want to buy a soldering iron that I will be using in my hobby electronic projects.

I have never used one before, so I have some questions:

    - What is the recommended wattage for small projects?
    - Can you recommend me a good soldering iron?
    - What about helping hands?

    Thank you!!!

This is the soldering iron I've been using for the last 5 years. Before that I had used an Ungar with a Dremel TRIAC Controller. I think it is important to be able to adjust the temperature of the iron.

I replaced an old, obsolete Weller temperature-controlled unit with a Weller WES51 and have no regrets whatsoever.

Weller still makes some of the best soldering stations around. Another alternative is the Hakko FX-888:

    Either way, can't go wrong.
